Sony VPL-VW50 1080p SXRD Projector

According to the article it seems that Sony has officialy announced VPL-VW50 (aka Pearl). This is a followup of a highly acclaimed VPL-VW100 ( Ruby ) projector released more than a year ago but with a lesser price of about $6000. If true, this would hurt the DLP sales a lot given its quality is similar to Ruby.

The projector features 900 Lumen of light output and, controlled with auto-iris, can peak the contrast ratio at 15,000:1. The projector uses 200 Watt high pressure mercury bulb which is what saves a big chunk on the price. To remind, VPL-VW100 uses Xenon gas fluorescent lamp which is better for red color.

Optical specs are feature rich on VPL-VW50 including horizontal and vertical shift of the 1.8 zoom lens with the focal length from 3 meters ( 10' ) to 5.5 meters ( 18' ) to , and, amusingly, autofocus capabilities.

Sony claimed a new 1-chip video processing engine ( with all the bells and wistles that are not known yet ). Most importantly, VPL-VW50 can accept 1080p/24 video.
